Przekupka (the market seller)
Mariensztat, Warsaw, Poland
A comely woman with a chubby chicken stands at the corner of Mariensztat square. Before the Second World War, and before the Warsaw Uprising when the square was razed to the ground, there was a market here. Full of comely and chatty przekupkas selling well-fed, chubby chickens. And so she’s standing proud, a reminder of another time altogether. But willing to receive a hug from the here and now.
