Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
He was in Madeira for only 12 short hours. But he was in Madeira nonetheless. On 12th May 1991, thousands lined the streets to welcome Pope John Paul II to Funchal, the biggest city on the tiny and remote Portuguese island. It was a big day in Madeira. And to commemorate it forever, this statue was put up outside Funchal Cathedral. Holy moly.
