The comedian Ken Dodd has wild hair, buck teeth and he carries with him everywhere a feather duster. Except he calls it a ‘tickle stick’. Liverpool-born Ken has had a career that spans five decades, and perhaps more oneliners than any other comedian. Like this: I have kleptomania. But when it gets bad, I take something for it. Or this: What a beautiful day for sticking a cucumber through someone’s letter box and shouting,’Help! The Martians have landed!’ Or this: ‘A quick gag for all the telepaths out there…’
But this statue isn’t Ken Dodd’s only honour. He was made an honorary fellow of Liverpool’s John Moores University and of Chester University, and in 2010 was awarded a Doctorate of Letters at Liverpool Hope University. Which, to use Ken’s own words is pretty nick-nacky-nick-nock-nicky-nacky-noo.
