Platýz courtyard, Národní třída, Prague, Czech Republic
It’s not the nakedness that gives this statue its power. It’s the sense of peace. Only metres away is the busy Prague street, Národní třída. There, people hurry in and out of shops and offices, they have lunch meetings and dinner dates, they queue for trams and they hail taxis for aching feet. Life is happening. Hectic, bustling, frantic life. And here, tucked away in a courtyard and hidden from the chaotic life taking place on the city’s main thoroughfare, a reminder of something important. Calm.
Seated Girl has been, erm, seated in the Platýz courtyard since 1980. She was created by sculptor Miloš Zet. Miloš also created what is perhaps the Czech Republic’s most famous naked statue. Youth, at Prague Castle.
